A mixture of lime, extremely fine sand and marble powder, this primer with a shiny and smooth appearance gives superb light reflections. If it is a little delicate and tedious to execute, it remains within the reach of a non-professional ... after testing! Widely used in Venetian palaces, it was very popular with the Egyptians and the Romans.
The step by step
Danièle's stucco You will need: For 1 m2: 5 kg of mixed plaster in living rooms and 5 kg of fatty plaster in damp rooms + natural powder pigments; 2 coating knives, rotary mixer mounted on drill. Each craftsman has his magic formula… and secret, long experienced. Do not hesitate to grope, to make multiple tests, because the temperature, the wind or the hygrometry play a preponderant role in the final aspect of the stucco.
First of all, you must prepare the support by opening and filling the cracks and by passing a printing layer whose film is not too shiny.
Mix your pigments in a little linseed oil to get the consistency of a pancake batter. The pigments must be perfectly diluted to mix properly with the coating.
Add your pigments and mix well. Then pass, with a coating knife, a first fluffy layer by making spaced and irregular touches all over the wall, without taking care of the gaps.
In the process, pass a second fluffy layer filling the gaps and crushing the reliefs.
The next day, make a cross pass from bottom to top over the entire wall.
The next day, start shoeing (or tightening): hold your knife almost perpendicular to the wall and pull your stucco in cross passes.
Twenty-four hours later and for extra protection and shine, wax your stucco with white wax, before buffing with a soft cloth.
THE PRO COUNCIL
Always work with two coating knives: the first is loaded with plaster, the second is used to take small portions of plaster and spread it on the wall. If a waxed stucco requires a touch-up, unravel it with balsamic turpentine, open the crack, reseal and redo a small part of stucco, before recasting to homogenize the whole. By passing the knife lightly moistened with soapy water and without insisting too much, the stucco takes on a matte appearance. It will become more and more satin if the shoeing is pushed and the knife wet. For a shiny finish, wet the wall with soapy water and tighten firmly.
GOOD TO KNOW
Based on natural and therefore very ecological products, stucco requires a minimum of three passes, applied fresh on fresh to obtain a lasting result. Recently, there has also been "ready-to-use" stucco, the only defect of which is that it gives a slightly plasticized appearance to the decor.
